Diploma and Graduate Degree

in Library and Information Science Studies at David Yellin College

 

 

 

The information age poses new challenges to the world of libraries and information retrieval and use, providing an opportunity to re-examine and redefine the role of librarians.

Today's librarians are not only engaged in traditional library roles of management, fulfillment and book lending but are experts in locating online and printed information, specializing in advanced technologies relevant to the world of libraries and information.

 

Both the Diploma and Graduate Degree programs for at David Yellin College train students

on library – community outreach, knowledge and information retrieval and accessibility, using diverse software programs for library management, digital databases and  marketing strategies for the modern library.  The program stresses the importance of the library's role in creating literate environments and promoting literacy among children and adults.

Target audience: Book lovers and lovers of knowledge and knowledge, who are interested in turning these fields into a profession and integrating into the variety of positions in academic, public and schools libraries and information centers or as independent information researchers.

 

The purpose of the studies: to train librarians-information specialists who will manage and work in various types of libraries: public libraries, libraries in academic colleges, resource centers in schools, technological information centers, libraries in government ministries and more.

 

The following is an excerpt from our curriculum (please contact us for additional information)

  • Organization and dissemination of information;

  • Information technology in libraries: library management software, library digitization, the librarian and the Internet library, building the library website

  • Library management, interpersonal communication, advertising and marketing

  • Library roles in educational institutions: school library, public library, children's literature, bibliotherapy, literacy.

 

Scope of studies: 24 courses.

Duration of studies: two academic years.
Diploma: Thursdays from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Graduate Degree: Tuesdays 08.30am -5.30pm

Admission requirements: personal interview. Non-academic candidates are required to complete 24 hours of general education.

 

Diploma: Those who meet the requirements of the program will be awarded a certified librarian-information science certificate from the David Yellin Academic College of Education and the Department of Libraries at the Ministry of Culture.
